Magento Shoping System

I have been looking for a new ecommerce system to try a new venture.  I have found magento!.  It is open source, which i love. It’s ran by php and mysql.  But most of all, I love the inegration and updating system.  It seems easy to use, I just have to do some more reading on it to figure it out.  Now I just need to find something to sell!

Golfing in Style

I thinks I likes!  I don’t know how I came across this one, but that god I did!  I have always wanted to try a segway and NOW I have a reason.  Notice how I said TRY!  There is no WAY I can afford one of these right now.  First, you have to find a dealer that sells them, which I couldn’t.  But I did find one or two eBay sales for one.  They were only running $5,500.  Yeah, I can get one RIGHT NOW… Whateves!  Anyways, check out segways site at www.segway.com to see this thing in action.  I might have to run into the city one day and rent a segway from Capital Segway.  Screw the tour thing, I want to run the mall!

My Pom Pom Girlfriend

We spent the weekend down at Sith Mountain lake(SML) this past weekend and I got to see my favorite Pom Pom, Alexis!  I snapped a quick photo with my iPhone, but I have some better ones on the camera.  Once I get all the images up loaded to the photo gallery, I will of course post it here.  I spent most of the weekend recovering from working so hard.  I did alot of sleeping, ALOT of sleeping.  I really didn’t get into it until saturday as I kept getting head aches.  I think it was because I was relaxing to much and wasn’t working.  Which is great for me.  Renee says that I need to take an extra day off before vacations so I can truely relax during the vacation!  I just might have to heed the doctors orders!

3G NETWORK, not 3gigs!!!

Seriously apple, what the the hell.  I am a mac addict, I know it and I embrace it.  But there are PLENTY of people out there that are not.  They don’t read the blogs daily like I and many other mac addicts do.  So when you write 3G, I know what you are talking about.  The 3G network as in the data transfer network.  I have been approched by many a people asking about the new iPhone.  They know that I love apple and know whats going on.  A couple have prople have aasked me, “When will the 3gig iPhone come out?”  Honestly, I know how people can get confused about this.  The standard abbreviation of gigabit is gig, not just G.  But as we all know, everyone reads things quickly.  So people will misintrupte 3G as meaning 3gig.  I know it is not a hugh problem, but I can see the unknowing masses going into an apple store or online looking for the new 3gig iPhone.

Linux and the dog

Yesterday, I kicked off the Live Free experiment by going over the linux OS distro that I planned on using.  Well, after reading some more about Ubuntu, I found out that they really don’t offer a distro for the PowerPC architecture.  What a bumber!  So I had to go back to square one.  Did a little more research on linux.org and found a distro from YellowDog Linux that will work.  They actually geared thier distro to the PowerPC chip.  So, let’s start again, I plan on using YellowDog Linux as the OS for the project! ;)

Only 1 More Day!!!1

Only one more day!!!1  Iam getting siked over here!  Although we have to leave late tonight and then I have a sales call in Roanoke in the morning tomorrow, I am still damn excited about this trip!  It’s going to be a nice relaxing weekend.  Beer, Hotdogs and the water, how can you go wrong?

Speaking of hotdogs, I got another call last night from Tom asking for MORE fuckin hotdogs!  “I need to add one more bag to my order.”  Well thank god I picked up 2 spare bags.  that should last the Rybaks till December, howfully!

Exciting innovations a'comin!!1

I have been wondering for the longest time how apple and other websites were able to bring images as an overlay on a webpage.  Basically, you have a thumbnail image on your site, and the user wants to look at a larger version.  Well, rather then having them go to another page or something like that, the user clicked the image and a larger version of it came up right on top of the page that it is on.

So I had sometime and found how it is accomplished.  It is called LightBox.  I have found a version if it that I like online from Lokesh Dhakar that I will be incorporating into my site.  Check out the examples and how its done on their website www.lokeshdhakar.com

Can you live Free?

With prices on EVERYTHING going well beyond affordable, I have been thinking lately about how to save money and ways to spend less.  So I came up with an idea.  Can you truly live free on a computer.  What I mean is, can you live your daily life on a PC with an entire system that is either Open Source or freeware software?

The first problem of course is obtaining a computer for free.  Of course this is a little bit of a problem, but at the moment, we’ll over look that.  In this experiment, I am going to use a 12″ PowerPC Mac Powerbook.  I already have it and don’t use it so it makes a perfect candidate for this experiment.

We are going to start off with the Operating System.  All commercial operating systems cost money.  Of course you get the latest version when you buy a new computer, but that license cost is included in the price of the computer.  Then after a while, a new version of the OS comes out and you have to pay more money for that upgrade.  Hence the problem, we are spending money to upgrade to the latest and greatest.  That just won’t work!

So we are going to look at Open Source Operating Systems.  The best open Source OS out there is of course Linux.  Mac OSX is based on a flavor of linux so we know we have to be looking at something worth while if apple uses it!  There are many, MANY flavors of Linux out there.  After doing a little bit of searching on linux.org, I found a distrbution that will work on a PowerPC mac, Ubuntu.

While there are many different versions of Ubuntu, we are going to focus on switching from a main stream OS to an Oen Source OS for the masses.  Meaning, any one that wants to “live free” can do this.  So rather then looking at using a server based distro, we are going to look at a desktop or end user ditro called Ubuntu Desktop Edition. This should be a good replacement for almost any main stream OS out there.  So take a look and see if this is something you might liek to try.  In the next couple of weeks, I’ll review how the installation went and first thoughts on the begining of Living Free!

Only 2 Days left…

Only two more days until we get out of Dodge. I am soooooo freakin excited about this!  As I mentioned in the last post I got a call from Renee’s cusin Tom last night.  After talking with him, I talked to uncle Don for a little bit.  In the background I heard my favorite Pom Pom going off.  I am so excited, I can’t wait to see her!!!  I might have to make a trip to the doggie bakery for a present for them!  But if I remeber the last time I got them something, they got it EVERY WHERE.  This time it’s going to be a simple cookie or something, that is if I get down there in time!

I Must be Nutz!

I must be nuts. About a week ago, I went to Wegmans to pick up some Sahlen’s Hot Dogs as I know the Rybaks of NC are HUGE fans of their hot dogs. Only because the hot dogs are from Upstate New York, just like them. It’s kind of the same thing with my family and Usgingers Hot Dogs and Brats. So I picked up 2 5lbs bags of hot dogs for them as a gift for letting us come down to SML this weekend. Well, I get a call from Renee’s cousin Tom last night asking if I could pick some Sahlen’s for them. I told him I already did… “Thanks, but that is not enough.” I had to laugh! In the back of my head when I first picked up the hot dogs last week, I knew that wouldn’t be enough!
So I guess I must really like the Rybak family. I went out last night in the pouring down rain at 9pm to run to wegmans about 20 miles away to pick up 2 more 5lbs bags of hot dogs and 8…yes 8 things of Webers mustard for them! So they now have 4 5lbs bags of hot dogs on their way this weekend to to them. Actually, I picked up 2 extra 5lbs bags, I know 4 5lbs bags of hot dogs is not going to be enough for them!

Love can really be baught with food, just like in my family!!! ;)
